NEW BIKE CONFESSIONS: IRRATIONAL BIKE COLLAPSE NIGHTMARE. Getting a new bike is such a big, wonderful and scary splurge that it arouses a ton of feelings. Feelings we lay bare for you here in “New Bike Confessions.” Like that nightmare we get when we first get a bike. The one in which the whole thing just falls apart while we’re on a ride. Bearings fall apart and spill all over the trail, headsets loosen and bars rotate in the stem. Spokes spin and snap and frames crack and fail horrifically. It’s irrational. It’s ridiculous. But it’s enough to make us head out to the garage at an ungodly hour, grab the allen wrenches and snug up every single bolt on the bike. Just in case.
